It is a herbivorous animal related to the camel. It lives in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia. In the wild it can live up to 20 years. The male is also used for transporting goods up to 60 kg, while the female for wool production and reproduction. Gestation lasts 10 months and gives birth to one cub.
