The peacock is native to southern India.

The male differs greatly from the female in appearance which is strikingly plumed. The female lays up to 5 eggs and the age of the peacocks exceeds 25 years.

There are three species of peacocks: the blue peacock (Pavo cristatus), the Congo peacock (Afropavo congensis), and the green peacock (Pavo muticus).
